Shell size: 5-7cm.

Selected natural conch shells from approved sources for crafts, the creamy primrose colour makes this one of our most popular shells for interior and exterior decoration.

Background: True conch species are salt water snails which vary in size from small to very large.

Most species live on warm sandy bottoms in tropical waters in Indo-Pacific Oceans, and many are economicaly important as food sources.

The animal inside the shell is eaten, either raw like oysters, steamed or stir fried. All parts of the conch meat are edible. However, most people only find the white meat appetising.

Conch Shells in History: In many societies large conch shells were fashioned into effective bugles and used as hand weapons.

Ecological Note: This shel's "big brother" the pink Queen Conch (Strombus gigas) is included on CITES list of endangered species. These shells are often sold whole or as jewellery to tourists in the Caribbean but constitute one of the most frequently confiscated items by UK customs.

Safety Information: Not suitable for children under 36 months as the shells may present a choking hazard.

Retail and Creative Design: This sea shell is available in wholesale quantities.
