Cockle Shells in History: Cockle (and mussels) have been immortalised in what has become an Irish Anthem - the story of Molly Malone , a 17th century fishmonger who plied her trade on the streets of Dublin.

Lyrics :
In Dublin's fair city,
where the girls are so pretty,
I first set my eyes on sweet Molly Malone,
As she wheeled her wheel-barrow,
Through streets broad and narrow,
Crying, "Cockles and mussels, alive, alive, oh!"
