Pack size: 10 Shells.

Shell size: 10-12.5cm.

A popular natural shell from approved sources which our clients have used for for crafts, window dressing and photographic work.

Background: "Spiders" are part of the conch family which are are salt water snails that vary in size from small to very large.

Most species live on warm sandy bottoms in tropical waters in Indo-Pacific Oceans, and many are economicaly important as food sources.

The animal inside the shell is eaten, either raw like oysters, steamed or stir fried. All parts of the conch meat are edible. However, most people only find the white meat appetising.

Conch Shells in History: In Mayan art large conches were used as paint and ink holders for scribes, as bugles and hand weapons.

Ecological Note: The large pink Queen Conch (Strombus gigas) is included on CITES list of endangered species. These shells are often sold whole or as jewelery to tourists in the Caribbean but constitute one of the most frequently confiscated items by UK customs. Please do not be tempted to purchase them whilst on holiday.
