Note: Once the cockle meat has been removed these shells have been naturally weathered, no artificial cleaning has been carried out on this product.

Background: Cockle shells are a very common species found throughout the world. The rounded shells can have a pronounced heart shape and are frequently ribbed. In both Europe and the Far East cockle shells are one of the most popular edible shell fish.

Cockle Shells in History: Cockle (and mussels) have been imortalised in what has become an Irish Anthem - the story of Molly Malone, a 17 century fishmonger who plied her tade on the streets of Dublin.
